- The deadline for submitting your request is the end of the second week of classes. After than daily penalty points will be deducted from the semester participation grade.

- New Testament Pre-Test
- Basic Questions related to the Course:
- How to prepare for class next Tuesday and each class period:
- Unlike a typical class, do not read in advance the materials in the Harris textbook or the New Oxford Study Bible related to topics 1.0 through 1.7! Yes, you really heard your prof tell you to not read your textbooks!
- Instead, go into the objective question database for chapter one, print it out, and begin answering the questions for topics 1.0 through 1.7. Realize it will probably take us two and maybe three class periods to cover unit one.
- One tip: Additional questions can be added to the database only up to the class period that we cover a specific topic number. Once it has been covered in class, no new questions will be added to the topics up to that point. So before quizzes, do a quick comparison of your printed list to the list of questions in the internet at Cranfordville.com. Also, look for the last revised: date at the top of the page for additional indication as well.
- How to participate in class:
- Should you take detailed notes in Religion 102 class? As a rule, no!
- What notes then should you take? Bring your printed out list of questions to class as your note pad. Our class discussion will follow the topic list. As our class discussion proceeds, make notes by the topic numbers and questions that provide clues for answers the questions on each topic.
- Some cautions:
- Note in the Syllabus some no, nos about activities not allowed during class sessions. These are automatic point deductions from your Participation Grade.
- As a rule, I will not usually call you down publically in class for these actions. I just simply mark them in the attendance record and the point deductions are automatically made with no appeal possible.
- I do have some pet peaves that really irritate me. Probably at the top of my list is a student studying for another class during my class. I consider this among the highest insults that a student can make toward me as a professor. My point deduction pen really goes to work when I spot this taking place!!!! Not far behind this is for a student to have to go to the bathroom during class time. Take care of business before or after class, but not during class.
- What about class roll call?
- Normally I call roll at the very beginning of each class period.
- Anyone who isn't present to answer roll call is automatically counted as having an unexcused absence.
- What if you come in after roll call? There's only one way to clear up the unexcused absence: You must submit an online Request Formafterwards over the internet. Don't come up after class to tell me that you're present. That won't work. If you were not listening, during roll call and did not respond when your name was called, then this request form MUST be completed also.
- What about Absences?
- In Religion 102 a distinction in point deduction in the Participation Grade is made between excused absences, unexcused absences and tardies. See the Attendance section in the Syllabus for details.
- Excused absences must meet specified guidelines and are granted ONLY after an online Request for Attendance Adjustment form is submitted and approved. A Tardy is granted from an Unexcused Absence ONLY after a Request form is submitted and approved.
- What about quizzes and exams?
- First, be sure to read the explanation in the Course Syllabus for both quizzes and exams.
- Next, be aware that the course structure is intentionally designed so that answering the objective and essayquestions in the databanks will require reading and analyzing materials not discussed during the class periods. Class period discussions are planned to touch only on the highpoints.
- Specific sources both in the required textbooks and internet URLS will be indicated in the question databanks for specific topic ranges and sometimes for individual questions.
- Remember:
- Midnight Sun (Jan 15) is the deadline for completing your Student Profile Form in order to receive 5 points extra credit on your Participation grade.
- Also: You have until next Sun (Jan 22) midnight to get your Scripture Passage Request in for the Analysis Paper before late penalty points (minus 2 points per day from your Participation grade) kick in.
