| 9 Let love be without hypocrisy.
Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another
in brotherly love; give188 preference
to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in
spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation,
devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints,189
practicing190 hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you;191 bless and curse not. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate192 with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect193 what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave194 room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. 9 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil,
hold fast to what is good; 10 love one another with brotherly affection;
outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Never flag in zeal, be aglow with
the Spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation,
be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice
hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." 20 No, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
9 Don't just pretend that
you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side
of the good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection,78
and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy in your work,
but serve the Lord enthusiastically. 12 Be glad for all God is planning
for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. 13 When God's
children are in need, be the one to help them out. And get into the habit
of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night.
14 If people persecute you because you are a Christian, don't curse them; pray that God will bless them. 15 When others are happy, be happy with them. If they are sad, share their sorrow. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don't try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all! 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible. 19 Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, "I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it,"79 says the Lord. 20 Instead, do what the Scriptures say: "If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink, and they will be ashamed of what they have done to you."80 21 Don't let evil get the best of you, but conquer evil by doing good. 9 Love must be completely
sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good. 10 Love one another
warmly as Christians, and be eager to show respect for one another. 11
Work hard and do not be lazy. Serve the Lord with a heart full of devotion.
12 Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray
at all times. 13 Share your belongings with your needy fellow Christians,
and open your homes to strangers.
14 Ask God to bless those who persecute you—yes, ask him to bless, not to curse.82 15 Be happy with those who are happy, weep with those who weep.83 16 Have the same concern for everyone. Do not be proud, but accept humble duties.F18 Do not think of yourselves as wise.84 17 If someone has done you wrong, do not repay him with a wrong. Try to do what everyone considers to be good. 18 Do everything possible on your part to live in peace with everybody. 19 Never take revenge, my friends, but instead let God's anger do it. For the scripture says, "I will take revenge, I will pay back, says the Lord."85 20 Instead, as the scripture says: "If your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them a drink; for by doing this you will make them burn with shame."86 21 Do not let evil defeat you; instead, conquer evil with good.
