| 45 Immediately
Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other
side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away. 46 After
bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray. 47 And when it
was evening, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and He was alone on
the land. 48 And seeing them straining88
at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth89
watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended
to pass by them. 49 But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed
that it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were frightened.90
But immediately He spoke with them and said to them, "Take courage; it
is I, do not be afraid." 51 And He got into the boat with them, and the
wind stopped; and they were greatly astonished, 52 for they had91
not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their92
heart was hardened.

45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go be-fore him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw him, and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; have no fear." 51 And he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. | 45 Immediately after this,
Jesus made his disciples get back into the boat and head out across the
lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. 46 Afterward he
went up into the hills by himself to pray. 47 During the night, the disciples
were in their boat out in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on
land. 48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling
against the wind and waves. About three o'clock in the morning25
he came to them, walking on the water. He started to go past them, 49 but
when they saw him walking on the water, they screamed in terror, thinking
he was a ghost. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus
spoke to them at once. "It's all right," he said. "I am here! Don't be
afraid." 51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were
astonished at what they saw. 52 They still didn't understand the significance
of the miracle of the multiplied loaves, for their hearts were hard and
they did not believe.

45 At once Jesus made
his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to Beth-saida, on the
other side of the lake, while he sent the crowd away. 46 After saying good-bye
to the people, he went away to a hill to pray. 47 When evening came, the
boat was in the middle of the lake, while Jesus was alone on land. 48 He
saw that his disciples were straining at the oars, because they were rowing
against the wind; so sometime between three and six o'clock in the morning,
he came to them, walking on the water. He was going to pass them by,11
:49 but they saw him walking on the water. "It's a ghost!" they thought,
and screamed. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him. Jesus spoke
to them at once, "Courage!" he said. "It is I. Don't be afraid!" 51 Then
he got into the boat with them, and the wind died down. The disciples were
completely amazed, 52 because they had not understood the real meaning
of the feeding of the five thousand; their minds could not grasp it.
