| 8 And in the same region
there were some shepherds staying out in the fields, and keeping watch
over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before
them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly
frightened. 10 And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold,
I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people;
11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior,
who is Christ49 the Lord. 12 "And
this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths, and
lying in a manger."50 13 And suddenly
there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising
God, and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among
men with51 whom He is pleased."
15 And it came about when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they came in haste and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.52 17 And when they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them. 21 And when eight days were completed before53 His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. 8 And in that region there were shepherds

of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Be not
afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come
to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David
a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you
will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth
peace among men with whom he is pleased!"
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; 18 and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. 21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. |
8 That night some shepherds
were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep.
9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance
of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, 10
but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you
good news of great joy for everyone! 11 The Savior – yes, the Messiah,
the Lord – has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And
this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger,
wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!" 13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by
a vast host of others – the armies of heaven – praising God: 14 "Glory
to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to all whom God favors.6

15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, "Come on, let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." 16 They ran to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 Then the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished, 19 but Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their fields and flocks, glorifying and praising God for what the angels had told them, and because they had seen the child, just as the angel had said. 21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. 8 There were some shepherds
in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields,
taking care of their flocks. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and
the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid,16
10 but the angel said to them, "Don't be afraid! I am here with good news
for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. 11 This very day
in David's town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord! 12 And this is what
will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying
in a manger." 13 Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with
the angel, singing praises to God: 14 "Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!"
15 When the angels went away from them back into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us." 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and saw the baby lying in the manger. 17 When the shepherds saw him, they told them what the angel had said about the child. 18 All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said. 19 Mary remembered all these things and thought deeply about them. 20 The shepherds went back, singing praises to God for all they had heard and seen; it had been just as the angel had told them. 21 A week later, when the time came for the baby to be circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given him before he had been conceived.17 CROSS REFERENCES: R16: +22.9 Tb 5.4.
