Presentations for Thursday, Apr. 22Presentation 19: Amanda Houser----
Presentations for Thursday, Apr. 15:Presentation 17: Jamin Parnell----
More attention needs to be paid to the format of the papers. Significant points (up to 15 - 20 points) on the paper/presentation grade are being lost because of this. You can check the corrections with my editing of the pdf version of each paper. These editoral corrections reflect a signficant part of the grading process.
Reminder: Be sure to sign up for the annual Greek Party. Click here for details.

- Due Date: May 2, 2004
- Methods of turning in Exam 2:
- Hardcopy printed form
- Due in my office, LND 232, by 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon.
- If no one is in the Religion Department office, slip your paper under the door.
- Electronic form as email attachment
- Send to GWU@cranfordville.com only.
- Due in by midnight Friday, Sat. May 2, 2004.
- You will receive a confirmation email reply indicating that your exam has been successfully transmitted.
- Late paper policy as defined in the course Syllabus page:
- If turned in late, you will receive a grade of I (Incomplete) for the semester.
- Some cautions:
- Be absolutely certain to follow the exam guidelines (inside the exam itself) to the letter! Red ink will flood the paper if this isn't done.
- Make sure that you create the required document file name as explained inside the exam instructions, which is
- r492e02LastnameInitial.doc (e.g., r492e02CranfordL.doc)
- Points will be deducted from exam grade for failure to do this.
- Make sure that you enter the correct information in the Subject box of your email. My email system is set to automatically pick up on that structure and download the email in a separate folder just for these exams that is different from the Inbox. Because I process so many emails daily (usually 75 to 100) your exam email will get lost in the stack if the proper information isn't in your email Subject box.
- That information is: R492Exam2
- The email system is case sensitive. So use capital letters only as illustrated above.
- Nothing else should be in the Subject field.
- The exact wording as above must be in the Subject field.
- Points will be deducted from exam grade for failure to do this.
- Be certain that your name is somewhere in the email text field!

Some Items of Note:
1. The development of the Religion 492 course room is now underway during the holidays. The various aspects of its development will continue periodically so that everything will be in final form by the beginning of the spring semester. 2. This means that the course design is also in process and is not yet finalized. With multiple sections already scheduled a flexible structure is being developed to accommodate classes with different numbers of students enrolled. 3. Check the course room occasionally for insight into how the structure is being developed. 4. For 5 points credit to your Class
Participation Grade correctly fill out the online Student
Profile form by January 11. The form won't be
accepted after this date.

My philosophy of teaching the upper level
undergraduate courses stresses the importance of each student developing
skills in handling the text of the Bible, not just learning the data inside
the scripture. Thus the course design will highlight skill development
as an essential part of the class.
This particular class focuses attention on the history of NT interpretation. Thus we will do an indepth analysis of the ways the New Testament has been understood over the centuries, beginning with the Church Fathers and continuing up to the post-modern trends at the beginning of the twenty-first century. But the study will concentrate not just on history but also on application to the text of the New Testament. The objective will be for each student to then formulate his/her own interpretative methodology in light of this study. |
