Matthew 6:19-34 | Mark | Luke 12:22-34 | John |
6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures
on earth, where moth and rustF51 consume and where thieves break
in and steal; 6:20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rustF52 consumes and where thieves do not break
in and steal. 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be
also.
6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; 6:23 but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.F53 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,F54 or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 6:27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?F55 6:28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 6:29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 6:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you — you of little faith? 6:31 Therefore do not worry, saying, "What will we eat?' or "What will we drink?' or "What will we wear?' 6:32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 6:33 But strive first for the kingdom of GodF56 and hisF57 righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today. 12:22 He said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell
you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body,
what you will wear. 12:23 For life is more than food, and the body more
than clothing. 12:24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they
have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more
value are you than the birds! 12:25 And can any of you by worrying add
a single hour to your span of life?F122 12:26 If then you are
not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?
12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;F123
yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one
of these. 12:28 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is
alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he
clothe you — you of little faith! 12:29 And do not keep striving for what
you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. 12:30
For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things,
and your Father knows that you need them. 12:31 Instead, strive for hisF124
kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. 12:32 "Do not be
afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you
the kingdom. 12:33
Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do
not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near
and no moth destroys. 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also.
