18:1       And
(A)       he was telling them a parable
                so that they should always pray
                             and
                        ---- ------ not become discouraged,
    18:2        saying,
 (1)                    A judge was
                                   in a certain city
                             who did not fear God
                                  and
                             --- did not respect man.

    18:3                     And
 (2)                    a widow was
                                   in that city
                             and
 (3)                    she came to him
                               saying,
                                       Give me justice
                                          against my adversary.

    18:4                     And
 (4)                    he would not
                              for awhile,
                             but
                              after awhile
 (5)                    he said
                              to himself,
                                               Even though I do not fear God
                                                                nor
                                                           do I respect man,
    18:5                                       yet because this widow causes me trouble,
                                          I will give her justice

                                                           by her endless coming
                                               lest she wear me out.

    18:6       And
(B)       the Lord said,
 (6)                     Listen to what this unjust judge says;
    18:7                      and
 (7)                     will not God give justice to his chosen ones
                                                                    who cry out to him night and day,
                              and
 (8)                     will He delay long over them?

 (9)18:8                 I tell you
                                    that He will give them justice swiftly.

                              Nevertheless
                            when the Son of Man comes
(10)                     will he then find faith on the earth?

    18:9  And
(C)       he also told...this parable 
                     to certain ones who trusted 
                                            in themselves
                                                 that they were righteous
                                              and
                                     ---- treated others with contempt

(11)18:10                      Two men went up to the temple
                                          to pray
                                one a Pharisee
                                     and
                                the other
                                     a tax collector

                                               standing by himself
(12)18:11                      A Pharisee...prayed these things
                                                               O God
                                                          I thank you
                                                                      that I am not like the rest of mankind,
                                                                                     thieves,
                                                                                     rogues,
                                                                                     adulterers,
                                                                                          or 
                                                                                     even like this tax collector.

    18:12                                                 I fast twice a week,
                                                          I give a tithe of all my income.

    18:13                           And
                                                     standing at a distance
(13)                            the tax collector would not even look up to Heaven  
                                    but
(14)                            --- --- --------- began beating his chest
                                                     saying,
                                                                 O God
                                                            be merciful to me
                                                                            the sinner.

(15)18:14                       I tell you,
                                           This one went justified
                                                       down to his house
                                                       rather than that one,
                                     for
(16)                            whoever lifts himself up
                                                         will be brought down,
                                     and
(17)                            whoever humbles himself
                                                        will be lifted up.
