Mark 7:1-23
Block Diagram:
    7:1      And
(A)     the Pharisees and some of the scribes approached him
                             who had come from Jerusalem
    7:2      and
(B)     they saw some of his disciples eating bread
                                          with unclean hands
                                           that is, unwashed.

    7:3      Now
                                          unless they wash their hands
                                                         up to the wrist,
(C)     the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat
holding onto the tradition of the elders,
    7:4      and
                lest they cleanse themselves
(D)     they do not eat anything
                from the marketplace
             and
(E)     many other traditions they hold to
                    the washing of cups
                                        and
                                   pitchers
                                        and
                                   copper bowls
                                        and
                                   dining couches.
    7:5      And
(F)     the Pharisees and scribes asked him
 (1)                                        Why do your disciples not walk
by the tradition of the elders,
                                                 but
                                                    with unclean hands
 (2)                                        they eat bread?

    7:6      And
(G)     he said
              to them,
 (3)                  Well did Isaiah prophecy
                                         about you hypocrites
                                         as it stands written,
                                                               This people honors me
                                                                              with their lips,
                                                                    but
                                                               their heart is far from me;
    7:7                                                             and
                                                                           in vain
                                                                do they worship me
teaching as doctrine the commandments of men.
7:8                      Leaving the commandment of God,
 (4)                  you hold to the tradition of men.

    7:9      And
(H)     he was saying
              to them,
 (5)                  How well do you nullify the commandment of God,
in order to establish your tradition.

    7:10                  For
 (6)                  Moses said,
Honor your father and your mother,
                                       and
He who speaks against father or mother,
                                  let him be put to death;
    7:11                  but
 (7)                  you say,
If one says to his father or mother,
                                                                                    Corban (gift)
                                                                                       whatever you might benefit
                                                                                                       from me,
7:12                       you no longer permit him to do anything
                                                                 for his father or mother,
7:13                                         thus nullifying the word of God
                                                         by your tradition
                                                                    which you passed down;
                          and
 (8)                  many similar things as this you are doing.

    7:14      And
having called the crowd to him again,
(I)      he was saying
              to them,
 (9)                  All of you hear me,
                           and
(10)                  you understand.

(11)7:151              There is nothing entering man from the outside
                                  which can defile him;
                           rather
(12)                  the things coming out of man are those defiling him.

    7:17      And
when he went into the house away from the crowd,
(J)      his disciples were asking him about this parable.

    7:18     And
(K)      he says
               to them,
(13)                   Are you even as dull as them?

(14)                   Do you not understand
that nothing entering man...can defile him,
                                                             from the outside

7:19                                                                     because it does not enter his heart,
                                                                                          but
                                                                                     -- enters his stomach
                                                                                          and
                                                                                     -- goes out
                                                                                           into the latrine.

(L)      Thus he made all foods clean.

    7:20      And
(M)      he was saying,
What comes out of a man
(15)                   that defiles him;
    7:21                    for
                                          from inside man's heart
(16)                   evil reasonings comes out
                             acts of fornication,
                                     thievery,
                                     murder,
    7:22                             adultery,
                                     covetousness,
                                     wickedness,
                             deceit,
                             sensuality,
                             an evil eye,
                             slander,
                             arrogance,
                             foolishness;

(17)7:23               All such evil things come
                                               from with
                            and
(18)                   --- ---- ---- ------ defile the individual.
