Here are some updates to the photo albums from our experiences in Germany:
Siegburg is a town of about 40,000 people and is located about 6 miles from downtown Bonn and about 16 miles from downtown Cologne. It is an old town with lots of history that reaches back to 1064 AD. Today the town is a vibrant small town centrally located between the two much larger cities of Bonn and Cologne.
Siegburg (i.e. fort on the Sieg river) is a city in the district of Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the banks of the rivers Sieg and Agger, 10 kilometres away from the former capital Bonn and 26 kilometres away from Cologne. Archbishop Anno II of Cologne founded a Benedictine monastery in 1064, known as Michaelsberg Abbey, on top of the hill also called the Michaelsberg. A settlement that arose from that was first mentioned as a city in 1182. Siegburg reached the height of its prosperity in the 15th and 16th century. It is famous for its pottery, especially for the Siegburg pitchers (Siegburger Krüge). Since 1816 Siegburg is the county seat of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis.
