Cotton Patch Paraphrase
3.18. Ladies, be subordinate to your men, as becomes a Christian wife. Men, love your wives and don’t act ornery toward them.
Kids, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, don’t dominate your kids too much lest their spirits be broken.
Employees, always cooperate with your human bosses, not for promotion or praise, but with the pure motive which springs from reverence for God. Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as though you were working for God and not men. You may rest assured that you will receive from the Lord the pay that’s due you. You are employed by Christ the Lord. For the crook will get back his own crookedness, since there is no favoritism. 4.1 Employers, treat your employees with justice and equality, realizing that you yourselves have a spiritual employer.
New Living Translation
3.18 You wives must submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. 19 And you husbands must love your wives and never treat them harshly.
20 You children must always obey your parents, for this is what pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, don't aggravate your children. If you do, they will become discouraged and quit trying.
22 You slaves must obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Obey them willingly because of your reverent fear of the Lord. 23 Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and the Master you are serving is Christ. 25 But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites who can get away with evil. 4.1 You slave owners must be just and fair to your slaves. Remember that you also have a Master – in heaven.

The Message
3.18 Wives, understand and support your husbands by submitting to them in ways that honor the Master. 19 Husbands, go all out in love for your wives. Don't take advantage of them.
20 Children, do what your parents tell you. This delights the Master no end. 21 Parents, don't come down too hard on your children or you'll crush their spirits.
22 Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. 23 Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, 24 confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ. 25 The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being Christian doesn't cover up bad work. 4.1 And masters, treat your servants considerately. Be fair with them. Don't forget for a minute that you, too, serve a Master - God in heaven.
The Douay-Rheims Bible
3.18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as it behoveth in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter towards them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to indignation, lest they be discouraged.
22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh: not serving to the eye, as pleasing men: but in simplicity of heart, fearing God. 23 Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men: 24 Knowing that you shall receive of the Lord the reward of inheritance. Serve ye the Lord Christ. 25 For he that doth wrong shall receive for that which he hath done wrongfully. And there is no respect of persons with God. 4.1 Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a master in heaven.
Weymouth New Testament
3.18 Married women, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Married men, be affectionate to your wives, and do not treat them harshly.
20 Children be obedient to your parents in everything; for that is right for Christians. 21 Fathers, do not fret and harass your children, or you may make them sullen and morose.
22 Slaves, be obedient in everything to your earthly masters; not in acts of eye service, as aiming only to please men, but with simplicity of purpose, because you fear the Lord. 23 Whatever you are doing, let your hearts be in your work, as a thing done for the Lord and not for men. 24 For you know that it is from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. Christ is the Master whose bondservants you are. 25 The man who perpetrates a wrong will find the wrong repaid to him; and with God there are no merely earthly distinctions. 4.1 Masters, deal justly and equitably with your slaves, knowing that you too have a Master in Heaven.
