(A)       The disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting.

 (1)                       Why do the disciples of John
                                 and
                           the disciples of the Pharisees fast,
                                 but
 (2)                       your disciples do not fast?
     2.19      and
(D)       Jesus said to them,
 (3)                        The sons of the bridalchamber are not able to fast, are they?

                                                   while the bridegroom is
                                                                          with them

                                    as long as they have the bridegroom 
                                                       with them
 (4)                        they are not able to fast;
     2.20                         but
 (5)                        there will be days
                                      when the bridegroom will be taken
                                                             from them
                                  and
                                     then
 (6)                        they will fast
                                     in that day.

 (7) 2.21                   No one sews a patch from new cloth
                                       onto an old garment,
                                  but
                                          if so
 (8)                        the patch tears from it,

 (9)                        the new from the old,
                                  and
(10)                        the tear becomes worse.

 2.22                             And
(11)                        no one puts new wine
                                       into old wine skins,
                                  but
                                         if so
(12)                        the wine rips open the wine skins,
                                  and
(13)                        the wine and the skins are lost
                                  rather
(14)                        one puts new wine
                                    into new wine skins.
