-----------------(PRINT OUT THIS DOCUMENT AS A HANDY REFERENCE GUIDE)--------------
1The external history is to be included here: the Who, From Where, When, To Whom, and Why questions that relate to the writing of the document in which your passage is located.

2Two elements of the literary aspects of your passage must be included here:
1) the internal literary genra (broad genre and any applicable sub-genre); and
2) the external literary context/setting of your passage inside the NT document where it is located.
3) the third aspect, the internal literary structure, of your passage should be included under the paper body heading before you begin the exegesis of the passage.

3Things to watch out for:
1) Left Margin headings taken from the Roman numeral division of the outline of the passage done in phase two;
2) Left margin headings MUST not extend beyond the half way point of one line. If they need to, then split the heading into two sections with the second line single spaced below the first line;
3) make sure to include the appropriate scripture reference with each heading;
4) make certain that the left margin heading is on the third line below the text material above it (trick: hit your return key set on double spacing; then move cursor up one line to the blank line and reduce that to single spacing);
5) the scripture text below is to be single spaced and the left margin indented to the 0.5 tab space.

4Things to make sure you include:
1) a balanced blending of the various secondary sources as listed in the Sources Cited section (This means that you don't write a page using one or two sources, then another page using two different sources etc.);
2) proper citation of the sources used (without it plagiarism is being risked);
3)

5Things to make sure you include:
1) In every left margin heading section you MUST attempt to find some connection of that section of scripture to today's world (the now meaning). If you have trouble, it probably means your outline headings (thus division of the scripture text) is not done naturally according to the thought flow in the passage);
2) .

6Things to watch out for:
1) Make sure that you closely follow the instructions for the things to include in this part of your Conclusion.
2) New material, not covered in the exegesis of your passage, should not be included here. It should have been addressed in the exegesis of the passage.
3) Thus, no footnotes should show up here.

7Things to watch out for:
1) Make sure that you closely follow the instructions for the things to include in this part of your Conclusion.
2) Two elements to be included: a) a summary of the "now meaning" sections in the exegesis of your paper, and b) things about Bible study that you have learned from doing this paper.

8Things to watch out for:
1) Study carefully the examples for formatting the bibliographic reference for each type of source. Considerable points off the paper grade are taken each year with students who pay little attention to this.
2) Note especially the single spacing and the indentation of the biographic reference in the examples.

9Things to watch out for:
1) Headings include: INTRODUCTION; paper body heading using the heading for your passage; CONCLUSION; SOURCES CITED.
2) Each of the sections begins on a new page (use Page Break in word processing software); and is to be 2 inches from the top of the page.
3) Each heading is to be in all caps as point 1) illustrates.
4) Each heading is to be center spaced.
5) No heading can take up more than half of the line; if your body heading is longer either consider reducing its length or split it into two sections with the second line single spaced below the first line.
6) No scripture reference needs to be included in the body heading.

10Things to watch out for:
1) Make certain that the Times-Roman 12pt font used in the body of the paper is also used for the footnotes; the exact same font is to be used in both places;
2) Tricky point: In footnotes the listing of the author's name goes First Name followed by Family Name; BUT in the bibliography it is Family Name followed by First Name (the reverse).
3) Be sure to study the examples illustrating how to footnote each type of secondary source.
4) A blank line must be between each footnote. Trick: just hit the space bar at the end of each footnote. This will create that blank line.
5) Footnotes are mandate to the exclusion of Endnotes and Textnotes.
6) By all means, use the Footnote generating feature of your word processing software; do not manually enter footnotes or else this will turn into your worst nightmare.

11Things to watch out for:
1) This includes especially the overall formatting of your paper in relation to how well you followed the guidelines, i.e., margins, spacing, etc. These things are important. An important part of this assignment is to learn how to write following specified guidelines.

12Things to watch out for:
1) ALWAYS spell check your paper using your word processing software spell checker before turning in a paper.
2) Here I am looking for your use of English grammar and writing style, as well as correctly spelled words.
